The project for the Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles was inspired as a miracle, in the heat of municipal emancipation, by one of the pioneers of this emancipation, Father Doctor Serafim Leite, and carried out by Jacinto de Matos and a handful of fervent young parishioners. The blessing and laying of the first stone of the shrine took place on November 4, 1934, and both the construction of the shrine and the surrounding park were financed by donations from the community of S. João da Madeira.
This park, the oldest in the city, stands out as an appreciated urban space, offering a maintenance circuit, a cycle path and various leisure areas, such as the picnic area, the children's playground, the tea room, and various landscaped nooks with benches, a lake and a bridge.
Currently, the management of Nossa Senhora dos Milagres Park is the responsibility of the Parish Council, whose aim is to transform Nossa Senhora dos Milagres Park into a social and leisure space for the residents of S. João da Madeira and its visitors. This will be achieved through the proper maintenance of spaces and equipment, encouraging actions that boost the social employment market and promoting cultural and sporting activities that provide a pleasant experience close to nature.
